Digital Design Slam July 2017 : Plug and Play (People’s Choice Award)

For the last 3 days, I had my 3rd Slam. Our team’s name is Plug and Play (Yeah.. I know WTH WERE THEY THINKING.. SERIOUSLY! LOL We didn’t think of the name ourselves by the way. The teachers assigned it to us). Whoever from school finds this post, I’m sorry LOL but seriously…

Anyway, the theme was to think of a marketing ploy (or whatever you call it) for an intergalactic party. Main focus or will be putting a LOT of importance in Projection Mapping. This is open to interpretation and completely up to each team’s decision.

In every single Slam I’ve participated in so far – this one is the most annoying part. Getting the entire group to be okay with an idea. Not just being OKAY with it but be totally on board with it.

I personally do not feel that great being part of group projects but over the years, I’ve been a part of so many that I found some ways in coping with it. Also, I’m a firm believer of “As long as the idea is not horrible, there is always a way to work with it to make it great, different or interesting”.

I guess I really had to wrack my brain for this one as I think I was the only one who was so-so with the idea. I think the group has noticed due to my mini oppositions and I am awful at hiding my facial expressions so I don’t even really try all too hard anymore.

However, I assured one of them that as long as everyone else can give a very clear direction and a strong theme – I’ll be okay with it and I will obviously try my best regardless. It’s not about my initial suggestions not being considered by the group – it’s seriously all about being able to be creative with the theme we decided on.

For me the idea of “Earth is about to be destroyed, let’s find some great hoomans to send to Mars” is just severely limiting. However, I tried not to let that stop me I suppose while I had to set up the landing page cos I’d be screwed if I keep being negative about it.

I was honestly struggling at first when I started thinking about what I can do with all the assets and text everyone already made for the other interactive deliverables. However, I guess playing around (while getting freaking pissed off frustrated with the Unbounce UI lol) and staring at it for hours somehow worked towards my favor this time around thankfully.

All the previous designs I’ve made in the past were actually very helpful in setting the entire page up. I broke them up into parts in my head and took the ones that’d fit this landing page or make it a bit more balanced.

So, the video is supposed to be an intro to the party actually and the landing page is supposed to support it or give more information. The landing page also has to have a sign up or apply now feature to get the hype going or whatever.

So yeah, I think the team all did really well and for the first time in all 3 slams – I actually feel satisfied with what we came up and made within 16-20 hours. This is definitely a feeling I do not get very often. It was to a point where I wouldn’t have cared if we won anything or not because I believed that much in what we made.

Anyway, I decided not to sleep as I knew I needed all that time to keep tweaking the damn page and changing things around 1094809824 times.

In some ways, I’m glad barely anyone within the Digital Design program’s normally all that interested in setting up landing/web pages and customizing them etc. It’s a frustrating thing to deal with and it’s so easy to get stuck. So it means I usually get free reign with it and I don’t have to worry about asking the person in charge. I’m sure I’d like to keep editing it little by little and I’ll eventually drive them insane.

So yes! A huge thanks to my team : Ronnie, Manuela, Stuart, Simon and Ege. We all did awesomely! 😀

AX 2017 – Otome Game Releases for 2018

Woops! I’m…. quite behind at updating the blog about this announcement. Sorry about that… haha. Anyway, there were some announcements over at AX 2017 from Aksys for some more games that are getting localized next year!

There are 2 titles though 3 in total. They’re called 7’sCarlet and Kokuchou no Psychedelica respectively.

It’s been a couple of days already but I’m seriously still in a bit of a shock that they’ve actually listened to us otoge fans (one of the games I voted for was Psychedelica). To be honest, I don’t know ANYTHING about Psychedelica – only that I heard it was good. I’d like to keep it that way though as I found knowing close to absolutely nothing about a game helps me enjoy it more. I end up not thinking about it and getting disappointed if it doesn’t meet my expectations.

However, unlike what happened months ago – I’d really appreciate it if people don’t hype it up like they did Nightshade (or Hyakka Hyakurou). That didn’t go so well for me when people kept doing it. Why?

UNPOPULAR OPINION TIME : I do agree that Hyakka Hyakurou is definitely one of the better games that’s currently available and localized (since tbh there’s really not enough localized otoges to begin with so there’s a lot less to compare with)… but ONE OF THE BEST OTOME GAMES EVAR? I’m sorry I can’t… agree with that. There were so many flaws and inconsistencies in their stories. Characters still seem to change personalities and I NEVER understood this. Do they not know their characters enough to keep them the SAME in all the routes?… OR, do they not know what to do so they just mould or change them as they please to force them to do a certain sth in the story??

Nothing pisses me off more than characters magically acting differently to the point where they contradict themselves (and their own beliefs or opinions) as characters. Also, off the top of my head – how some stories were set up were pretty anti-climatic and it fell flat for me.

It didn’t help that I figured out 95% of Gekkamaru’s story before I even played it. Yep, lol might.. be hard to believe for some people, but I guess that’s just how much I’ve watched/read so many different things that I could guess plots fairly easily. When that happens, I just can’t help but lose interest.

Anyway, I’d like to keep myself completely in the dark about Kokuchou no Psychedelica from now on until release. Also, apparently they’ll be releasing an LE version for Bad Apple Wars this coming September 2017.

I’m DEFINITELY getting it as apparently there’s going to be an artbook included? I love this artist’s work (and she barely has done much for otoges to begin with – plus, I really don’t see Rejet allowing localization companies to touch their work anytime soon BUT I REALLY hope they would SOME day) so I’m all over it for sure.

On another note, there’s ANOTHER game that’s going to be released THIS MONTH HOSHIT! It’ll be released on July 28th. If you’re from Canada, they finally put up the game on EBGames up for preorder. I’m honestly super, super tempted to do it here so I can pick it up on release day but I seriously need to set my priorities straight and not play this until I’ve written the story for my grad project (which is an otoge btw) and have completed it.

Already asked my sis to hide the game from me so I won’t play it. YES… I need to take drastic measures. I can’t do what I did 1-2 years ago. So yeah, Collar X Malice will be a reward for me in short for completing it. It doesn’t end there though. I need to get the UI up and running too… ugh I’ll be so dead by December. *sob*

Another heroine once again wakes up in Grimm City – this time, it’s Hamelin and his mice she meets while walking aimlessly. Not knowing what to do,  she hopes this stranger will be able to help her get back to her world somehow. His mice however, has other things in mind and tells Hamelin to take her back to their place for some inexplicable reason. What could they possibly want with her?
